Juma Al Haj in Art of Living: Jubail Island, Abu Dhabi
Art of Living, curated by Architectural Digest Middle East, is an exhibition that fuses art, design, and architecture, exploring the dual themes of "New Traditions" and "Nature Connection."
Central to the exhibition is I Hear Their Echoes, first of it’s kind site-specific artwork of Emirati artist Juma Al Haj. Using expansive fields of script like brushstrokes and color, Al Haj's work immerses the viewer, making them a participant in the artwork, not just an observer.
Al Haj's exploration of language, words, and their meanings uncovers the commonality that unites us as humans, transcending differences in beliefs, appearances, and geography. His art reflects the power of words to shape our connections, behaviors, and societies. With each piece, Al Haj documents the transmission of words and ideas across generations, inviting viewers to contemplate the stream of thoughts and ideas that shape our identity and worldview.
In I Hear Their Echoes, Juma Al Haj captures moments from the past and future, shedding light on the timeless practice of Oral History, where societies transmit knowledge through speech, songs, and verses. His artwork challenges viewers to question the sources that shape their thoughts and ideas, encouraging autonomy in a world
